Additions Introduction
So you are planning on adding an addition to your home. There is so much to consider when adding on
to your home. What are you adding on? Family Room? Bedroom? Bathroom? Will it have a full foundation?
Before you get too far in the process, have you figured out what your budget is? How are you financing
your project? Do you have financing in place? Here is some food for thought. Before you go through
all of the steps of having a bid done for your project and then discovering that it's more than you
anticipated, we are urging our customers to have an appraisal done on their home first. That way you
know up front what equity you have and you can secure your financing. Then we can make the project
fit your budget, rather than going back to the drawing board multiple times trying to reduce the
project to fit the budget.
Our first meeting with you will take place at your home so that we can do a walk through and see what
your plans and vision are for your new addition. After that meeting, we will need to have detailed blueprints.
Are you working with an architect to provide detailed plans for your addition? If you aren't, we can
recommend one. It is important to have detailed blueprints in order to bid your project as well as
construct it. Things to consider are how the new addition is being tied into the existing home. Are
there other walls coming down or being moved inside the home? What is needed for heating, air
conditioning and plumbing? Are you going to want/need the addition pre-wired for internet, surround
sound or security?
Once we have a working set of blueprints, we can then schedule what we refer to as our "Contractor Day".
That allows our subcontractors, primarily heating, electrical and plumbing to visit your home and do a
walk through so that they can see what you currently have in place and what they will need to run to
the new addition.
Once we have all of our bids from our material suppliers and subcontractors, we will put together a very
detailed estimate on what your project will cost. We prefer to go through these bids in person so that you
understand everything we bid.
At Husnik Homes, Inc. we use top grade material and top grade subcontractors and trim carpenters. Our
goal is to make your new addition look like it was always there!
