Lead Renovator Lead Paint Removal
Important Information Regarding Lead Paint
Lead was added for color and durability and was also added to other surface coatings such as varnishes and stains. Back in 1978, the Consumer Products Safety Commission
banned the sale of lead-based paint for residential use.
If your house was built in 1978 or prior and you are planning on doing a remodel or renovation, it is important that the paint be tested for lead before
beginning any renovation work. If there is lead, then you need to make sure you are working with a Lead Certified firm as there are steps that need to be
taken for the removal and disposal of the lead.
Health Risks of Lead
Very hazardous to children:
Damages the brain and central nervous system and can cause decreased intelligence, learning difficulties, behavioral problems,
hyperactivity as well as kidney damage. Children under 6 are at a greater risk as their bodies are still developing. During
normal play or hand-to-mouth activity, children may swallow or inhale dust from their hands, toys, food or other objects. Damage
can be irreversible and can affect children throughout their lives.
Hazardous to pregnant women:
Lead is passed from the mother to the fetus and can cause miscarriages, premature births, brain damage and low birth weight.
Also hazardous to workers and other adults:
Health effects of lead in adults include high blood pressure, fertility problems in men and women, digestive problems, nerve disorders,
memory and concentration problems, and muscle or joint pain to name a few.
RPP Rule (Renovation, Repair & Painting): Firm Certification
On or after April 22, 2010, all covered renovations must be performed by Certified Firms, using Certified Renovators and other trained workers.
