Project #1
Fireplace Mantle and Built-in TV Surround
The before photo shows the slate tile around the fireplace and the
hearth and you will note that the hearth is raised just off the floor.
The whole wall unit also has more of a contemporary feel to it and
doesn't utilize the space very well.
As you can see after the project, the fireplace has been replaced and
moved more to the center of the wall with the plasma screen just above
it. Also notice all of the detailed trim work and how much more of a
statement this room has. On the left end you will notice that we did
built in shelving for books, DVD's, etc. You can't see it but on the
right end of the unit is a built in cabinet that hides all of the
electronics! A great use of space without detracting from the overall look.

Dining Room and Informal Eat-in Kitchen
These pictures are not a side by side comparison but just a few things
we wanted to point out. The dining area before had a cherry cabinet
built in with the slate on the wall which tied in with the old
fireplace. You will also note that there was a pantry unit on the end
by the cabinet. Just next to the pantry is the laundry room which was
totally gutted and moved to the other side of the house. The old
laundry room became a walk in closet/storage area. After the remodel,
you will see that the cherry cabinets have all been removed and replaced
with all new cabinetry as well as a mixture of light and dark finishes.
On the right side of the picture you will see that the cherry built in
is gone as is the pantry and the doorway to the laundry room. The
family has grown since we built this house 9 years ago so the dining
area needed to accommodate their family!

Kitchen Area
From this vantage point you can pretty much compare the before and the
after. We totally revamped where the appliances are. All of the custom
cabinets were taken out and all new custom cabinets went in. The
sub-zero was moved to where the oven/microwave was. The hood over the
cooktop is massive and works well over the commercial stove with a
double oven. There were extra subtle things that now make this a
gourmet kitchen. Notice the ambient lighting in the upper cabinets.
The backsplash behind the cooktop is now a great focal point and really
shows off our homeowners' taste in design. The cabinets were painted and
then antiqued to give this kitchen a warm look and there's plenty of
space for everyone.

Home Office Cabinetry
This room has been totally revamped. As you look a thte pictures, you
will notice that with the new cabinets, we brought them over to the
window trim and took advantage of those extra few inches. Again, the
cherry cabinets have been replaced with new custom cabinetry. The
inside back of the cabinets is beadboard which was painted and the
exterior of the cabinets was also painted but then it had a glaze put
on. It really gives the cabinets a look that is warm and inviting and
things are very functional and organized. You can't really see it but
we customized the desktop area of the office. All of the computer
cabling is hidden under the desktop but we left easy access if they ever
need to get at the cabling. You will also notice that the new trim work
is painted and not stained. That really brightens up the room and the
under cabinet lighting is a great feature too!

Bathrooms
This part of the house was added on to so the master bedroom and
batroom and closet grew by about 7 feet. You wouldn't think that would
make much of a difference, but the plan is so great that the the master
suite is an oasis all it's own. In the old bathroom the master closet
was at the end of the bathroom. In the new layout we moved the closet
behind the vanity area. On each end of the vanity is a closet door to
the great walk in closet. An you can see that storage isn't an issue
either! The new bathroom has a sleek look to it and everything is right
at your fingertips. The new sinks are much larger and the mirror has
been replaced aas well as the light fixtures.

Shower/Toilet
As part of revamping this master bathroom, the shower has been moved
to the opposite end and the old shower area has now become the water
closet. Notice the cabinets in the water closet. Nice feature.

Wall Unit/Home Gym
As you come down to the lower level the old layout had a built in book
shelf. Now we opened up that wall and put in french doors and a wall of
mirrors along with some cabinetry to house exercise equipment, towels,
etc.

Project #2
Exterior Before and After Photos
The old exterior was a combination of vinyl siding and brick. As you
can see we used vinyl siding again, but updated the look by using shakes
on the gables of the house. We also eliminated the brick and used
natural stone on the front pillars to draw your eye to the front entry.
The house also received a new roof along with new aluminum soffits and
fascia. The house now has a new personality that reflects our homeowners
style and taste.
Garage Before and After Photos
The homeowners lost their garage in the 2008 Hugo tornado. You will
see in the before picture that the entire front elevation of the house
was destroyed. The finished house doesn't show any evidence of the
events of the tornado.
Foyer & Stairway Before and After Photos
In the before picture you will see that the trim work was very
traditional and had the shiny brass hardware. The railing and newel
poses were also very traditional looking but had to be replaced due to
glass being embedded in parts of the wood. When we trimmed out the
house, you can see how we updated the trim work around the closet door
and all of the hardware is now the oil rubbed bronze hardware. The
railing on the wall was eliminated and moved to the other side of the
stairway and the newel posts and spindles now have a more current and
updated look. This again reflects the design taste of our homeowners.
Kitchen Before and After Photos
We were able to salvage most everything in the kitchen. The
homeowners kept the appliances and the cabinet framing but decided to
update the kitchen by having new cabinet doors made. You will notice
that the old kitchen had the arch in the cabinet doors. The new door
fronts have more of a craftsman look and new hardware. The owners also
had one set of cabinets with the frosted glass inserts just to add a
little bit of a contemporary flare to the cabinets. We also added some
pendant lighting that was lacking before.
Fireplace Before and After Photos
The fireplace before had a more traditional feel to it with the raised
hearth and the low profile mantle. The new fireplace has a slate tile
look along with a reclaimed piece of wood which was used as the new
mantle. We eliminated the raised hearth and inlaid the tile. The
hardwood floors were stripped, sanded and refinished. Again, all new
trim work around the windows as well as base shoe.

This home featured above is a brownstone that the builder had taken to the sheet rock
stage. The owners had requested that Husnik Homes do all of the finish work.
You will see in the pictures that the staircase from the living area
to the dining area and from the dining area to the 2nd level
(Before/After 3) were demolished and in it's place we had
beautiful custom made railings with a powder coat finish. It really
opens the area up and gives the brownstone a clean contemporary look.
The kitchen was a clean slate other than the fixtures were removed
and replaced. To carry the railing theme through to the kitchen, you
will see that we used the same material to support the
breakfast bar area. Another nice feature is the kitchen overlooks the
living area, so even though you may be in the kitchen, you can still be a
part of conversations taking place in the living room.
Prairie stone tile floors and Split Face Bluestone tile on the fireplace
face add a lot of color and dimension to this space.
